Caravan electrical systems are essential for providing power to your caravan’s appliances and lights, both when it’s hooked up to mains electricity at a campsite and when you’re off-grid.
There are two main electrical systems in a caravan:
240v mains electric: This supplies power through a hook-up lead to the refrigerator, three-pin mains sockets, 240v lighting (if fitted), a transformer (if fitted), immersion heater (if fitted), and
a 240v space heater (if fitted).
12v DC: This system supplies power from an on-board battery to the water pump, 12v strip lights, toilet pump (if fitted), the gas side of the water heater, and any blown air heating fan.

Leisure battery: As opposed to a car battery, a caravan uses a leisure battery which is designed to provide a steady supply of power over a long period.
Solar panels: Solar panels can be a great way to keep your leisure battery charged, especially if you’re off-grid for extended periods.
